If your loved one is in a coma as you read this, you are likely here for two things:
I have been pursuing this same advocacy role online since the mid 1990’s, including co-authoring the seminal webpage http://waiting.com. For the Bridge to Other TBI Caregivers, click here.
In my more than 20 years as a brain injury advocate, I have also learned that some of you will feel compelled to understand as much as you can about the medical science and terms the doctors are using. While the medicine can be complicated, I appreciate that while you wait, that you likely have the time and motivation to absorb some hard learning. I never underestimate a loved ones capacity to learn enough to actually make a substantive difference in the care the brain injured person receives.
The knowledge we hope to help you acquire can empower you as an advocate at each stage of, what you have every right to believe, will be a good recovery. Thus, we have created our “Primer on Brain Function and Pathology.” In the Primer, we begin with discuss the basic issues of severe brain injury pathology, brain bleeds and swelling, intracranial pressure (ICP) and specifically help to explain brain surgery, neuropathology, including contusions, hematoma, hemorrhage and subdural, as opposed to, epidural injuries.
This site is brought to you by the advocates of the Brain Injury Law Group, a community of plaintiff's trial lawyers across the United States united by a common interest in serving the rights of persons with traumatic brain injuries and a common commitment to fully understanding the anatomic, medical and psychological aspects of TBI.
