The Brain’s Lobes and Structures

There are two hemispheres to the brain, a left and a right. The old conceptions that they perform separate and distinct functions - the left handling bread and butter activities, math, reading, language - the right being creative, has been largely debunked. Yet the necessity of the two hemispheres to communicate with each other, largely thru the corpus callosum is of utmost importance. Indeed all parts of the brain have multiple communications with other parts of the brain and no area stands alone.

The principle lobes of the brain are the frontal, temporal, parietal and occipital. There is also a mid brain, a limbic system, a brain stem and the cerebellum. Detailed diagrams and explanations of the normal brain function will be included with the multi-media materials included herewith.

As the two hemispheres of the brain work together, they must be interconnect, through an intricate wiring mechanism. The corpus callosum consists of the nerve tracts that connect the right hemisphere and the left, which can be seen in the this Diffusion Tensor Imaging, MRI view of such. The Corpus Callosum is a slinky like structure, which represent the core connection between the two hemispheres.
